McClung Warehouse Fire; Sheriff J.J. Jones Talks about Possible Special Election
Broadcast Date: February 11, 2007

A major fire in downtown Knoxville destroyed one of the city's biggest eyesores, but also one it's greatest potential jewels. The potential is now gone, destroyed by the fire that took hours to contain.
In the aftermath of the McClung warehouse fire, Capt. Darryl Whitaker of the Knoxville Fire Department shares an insider's view of what it took to fight the fire.
The warehouse was one of the Fragile 15, a list of endangered properties issued by Knox Heritage. Kim Trent of Knox Heritage then joins Gene Patterson to look at the present state of historic preservation.
Knox County Mayor Mike Ragsdale pushed for a special election to replace the appointed county commissioners. But Gov. Phil Bredesen said he believes a special election is not likely. The new Knox County sheriff, J.J. Jones, responded to these moves when he talked to 6 News reporter Erica Estep in his first extensive one-on-one interview.
