Knox County Commissioners Prepare to Fill Vacated Offices
Broadcast Date: January 28, 2007

On Jan. 31, Knox County commissioners will vote to fill 12 county offices -- eight commission seats, the sheriff, register of deeds, county clerk and trustee. This action is being taken because of the state Supreme Court's recent decision that imposing a two-term limit on county officials, as approved by the voters in 1994, is constitutional.
There is controversy on how the commissioners are handling this task. Some people argue that the Wednesday deadline leaves too little time and too little public input to be fair to all the potential candidates.
Scott Moore, as chairman of the Knox County Commission, is squarely positioned in the middle of the bull's eye of debate following the state Supreme Court's recent ruling on the county charter and term limits. He begins the program with Gene Patterson.
Later in the program, one of the candidates for a commission seat, Elaine Davis, offers her thoughts on the selection process.
Then political columnist Frank Cagle and public relations expert Mike Cohen talk about how they would have handled what clearly is a difficult situation.
