Shooting Deaths in a Knoxville Church; Candidates for Knox County Sheriff
Broadcast Date: August 3, 2008

Just a week ago, two people were killed and a number of people injured at Tennessee Valley Unitarian Universalist Church in Knoxville. The suspect, Jim Adkisson, is charged with first degree murder.
Police say he left a letter in his vehicle saying he was frustrated and angry with the "liberal movement" and upset that he couldn't find a job.
In the first segment, Gene Patterson is joined by Ted Jones, the president of Tennessee Valley Unitarian Universalist Church.
Later, the two men running for Knox County sheriff share their thoughts about that horrific crime, as well as issues involved in the campaign.
The candidates are Democrat Randy Tyree, the former Knoxville mayor who began his career in public service as a police officer, and Republican J.J. Jones, who is currently serving as sheriff of Knox County and who has an extensive background in law enforcement.
