Commission Oversight of Knox Fee Offices

Last week on Tennessee This Week, Knox County commissioners Mike Hammond and Richard Briggs talked about their plans to craft legislation that, if approved, would move oversight of the budgets of the county's fee offices to the commission.

This week, Commissioner Briggs did just that. The ordinance he introduced would require the fee offices and the sheriff's office to submit budgets to the commission.

Joining Gene Patterson this week to discuss the proposed ordinance and how it might affect their offices are County Clerk Foster Arnett, Register of Deeds Sherry Witt, and Property Assessor Phil Ballard.

There was more fallout over the Tennessee Bureau of Investigation's look into the pay policies of the Knox County Trustee's Office. The audit committee is now recommending that payroll for all county offices be audited. Commissioner Ed Shouse, who sits on the audit committee, joins Gene in the second segment.

Then in for a final word is 6 News political analyst George Korda and Cortney Piper, an executive with SRW and Associates. They discuss the issues surrounding the fee offices and the school board's censure of board member Bill Phillips.

After Phillips pleaded guilty to misdemeanor assault charges against his wife, he was asked by board members to step down from his position. He refused, saying he's sorry for what he did, but that he didn't harm any students or teachers.
