State lawmakers were able to beat the deadline last week and vote in new education policies that will allow Tennessee to go after more than half a billion dollars in federal funding.

We'll know later this spring just how much money, if any, is coming our way.

Knox County Schools Superintendent Dr. Jim McIntyre and Knox County Education Association President Jessica Holman discuss how the new policies and funding could affect our local schools.

The Knox County primary is still several months away, but already voters and candidates are taking sides. One of the expected big battles of the election will be among the Republicans for Knox County trustee.

John Duncan III filed his nominating petition for that office this week and he is Gene Patterson's guest in the second segment.

Scott Brown won the U.S. Senate seat held by Ted Kennedy, who passed away last year. Brown is the first Republican elected to the Senate from Massachusetts since 1972.

In the Final Word. 6 News political analyst George Korda and Halls News Shopper columnist Larry van Guilder give their takes on why it happened.
