#2 TTW Show on 4/1/12
TTW,
A good show, and I might add, a rare frictionless one.
Your only guest this week, Mayor Burchett, continues to amaze me by appearing to act like a governmental executive should. He seems crisp and clear in his decision making, yet refreshingly transparent.
The KTSC situation, which was specifically discussed, addresses the point that a good mayor must be aware of what is going on throughout his government. That can be an exhausting job, but he must do it. The result is a well run government with no costly surprises like KTSC or the P-Card funded Lobster Lunch.
Gene and the mayor also discussed the appointment of Mr. Webb, a close friend of Mr. Burchett's, to the post of finance director. Placing confidantes in important positions comes with built in risks and enormous blind spots. Friends usually don't get nearly as vigorous evaluations and inspections as non-friends.
Finally, on a lighter note -----> TTW, my compliments on your new carpet ! But I will miss the jokes and jovial abuse that the stains on your old rug continuously generated.
#3 Public figures are as angry as the citizens
Mr Burchett appears tired of government as we know it. He seems angry --that is the point I bring away from the broadcast...
It reminds me of Mr Daugherty's comments on March 11, I believe , in commenting that candidate Romney felt---- initially---all he had to do was meet with the powerful or generous of Knoxville, and Tenneessee would be assured---and how did that work out, Mr Romney?...
Romney, you tried too late to appeal to average citizens...
So many people are doing so much good in Knox county, without demanding any attention or political Legacy.....They will live and die, while attempting to do something because it was the right thing to do...
But if they try to make a difference in government, the local advice is:
politicians want you to go away. And good people always do.
Look for more public officials to be sick of public officials around them.
