Promoting More Knox County School Funding
Broadcast Date: June 24, 2012

The recent Knox County budget vote turned into a debate over school spending. Schools Superintendent Dr. Jim McIntyre and the school board asked for an additional $35 million, money they said would go toward better technology, infrastructure improvements and more teaching time in the classroom.
The Knoxville Chamber supported the initiative, along with another group, Support Our Schools.
A volunteer with the group created an ad urging public support and some Chamber members donated $40,000 through the Partners Initiative Fund to put the ad on TV.
In the end, Knox County commissioners voted to give the schools $7 million.
Knoxville Chamber President and CEO Mike Edwards is Gene Patterson's guest in the first segment of this week's program.
Later, Gene is joined by political columnist Frank Cagle, Cortney Piper of Piper Communications, and radio host Hubert Smith of the Hubert Smith Radio Show on 90.3 WUTK.
