Knox County Schools Budget
Broadcast Date: May 6, 2012

Knox County Mayor Tim Burchett submitted this week his budget for the upcoming fiscal year. Out of the $673 million budget, more than 72 percent will go to the school system. That includes $13 million in new funding to cover growth, but not the $35 million investment the superintendent and the school board had requested.
Now the budget is in the hands of the Knox County Commission.
Joining Gene Patterson in this week's first segment are County Commission Chairman Mike Hammond and Board of Education Member Lynne Fugate.
The discussion continues later in the program when Gene is joined by radio host Hubert Smith of the Hubert Smith Radio Show on 90.3 WUTK, Cortney Piper of Piper Communications, and 6 News political analyst George Korda.

#1 Tenn needs to be Tenn
Mr Korda's comment that--despite the intent of Tenn legislation--
the Nation needs to---Let Tennessee be Tennessee.
--well I do agree.
I would offer Ms Piper comfort about national embarressment fm Tenn Legislation.
People in America arent really that different; they do like 'in your face' attitudes.
States Rights is Mr Korda's focus--and it doesnt have to be so political.
It can just be the fact that I lived along the ocean once.
And now I live near the Mountains.
I didnt have to get Federal permission to move......
There is another side of Mr Korda's coin.
Solidarity means we support local business, owned by local people.
We do not seek business ties with national companies that never heard of Knox County.
Or International ones that never heard of Tenn.
Business does have an ideology--and Tennesseans can only accept it, or resent it.
If I can para-phrase Rootin-Tootin George: I think we need to keep trouble-makers outta town.
