Knox County Schools Budget Request

Knox County Commissioners are in the middle of the budget process. The biggest share of the county's budget goes to the school system.
Gene Patterson's guest this week is Schools Superintendent Dr. Jim McIntyre, who explains why school administrators say the county should make an additional investment of $35 million in the coming year.
The weekly panel of pundits gathers then to weigh in on the budget process. They are Craig Griffith, a deputy under former Knoxville Mayor Victor Ashe; Cortney Piper of Piper Communications; and 6 News political analyst George Korda.
The pundits also weigh in on Union County Mayor Micheal Williams saying he wants his county to withdraw from PlanET, an organization made up of government leaders from Anderson, Blount, Loudon, Knox, and Union counties.

#1 Tax dollars and schools budgets
The Government has repeatedly cut funds for schools around the country. Why? Look at it this way. All the employees of the government pretty much have their children go to private school or home schooled, and some type of tutoring if necessary. They have the money to do such. The general public does not have the wealth to do this. So, the rich cut out funds for public schools, limiting education for the working class and poor citizens. This way, the rich get their children highly educated while keeping the public ignorant, so then the rich/government people can continue to get by with what they do. And then they just hand down they're seats to their children to run things the same as they have. An ignorant cannot fight a battle they have no education in.

From WATE, "The school system received around $384.67 million from the county last year. Once federal and state dollars are factored in, county finance department records show Knox County Schools spent $518.85 million."
Our school board and Superintendent McIntyre have hidden $134 million dollars of state and federal money from the people of Knox County. Do you consider that to be fair and honest disclosure?
How is it Knox County spends over a half a billion dollars a year and only 47% of our third grade students read at grade level?
Why on earth should taxpayers give another cent to this school board? Why shouldn't we demand an investigation of this school board to see why over half a billion dollars a year is being misspent?
